John J. "Johnny" DeNardo

On Saturday, September 17, 2022, John J. DeNardo, 81 of Bonita Springs, FL died at Joanne's House at Hope Hospice.
He was born March 27, 1941 and raised in Bangor, PA. John attended our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School and Pius X High School. He started at our Lady of Mount Carmel when he was just four years old, and helped The Salesian Sisters to make the communion wafers. He also served as an altar boy while in high school.
Johnny's family was very poor and he often reprimanded his own children when they bickered about time in the bathroom because he used an outhouse until he was 10 years old.
Johnny and Rozanne met in 10th grade in 1956, and they have been inseparable ever since. They travelled extensively throughout Europe. The highlight being in Italy meeting both of their families.
Johnny and Rozanne loved 50's music and attended concerts of Fats Domino and Little Richard. Their claim to fame was dancing together at American Bandstand with Dick Clark.
Johnny wasn't the most serious of students. He enlisted in the Navy at age 19 touring the Far East aboard the USS Piedmont. While in Japan, he had Rozanne's engagement ring custom-made at MIKIMOTO Jewelers (He still has the receipt filed away!)
He attended community colleges and took banking courses at night while working full-time and providing for his family. Johnny was involved in banking for 35 years. He worked at Schenectady Savings Bank, TRUSTCO Bank and TD Bank North, starting as a teller and retiring as an AVP in 2003.
He was a member of many organizations in banking, the DAV and many others, but his proudest membership was in the churches he attended. He served as a Eucharistic Minister in many of them. Because of his job they moved 10 times. They were married in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Roseto, PA. Then they joined Saint Jane de Chantel Catholic Church in Easton, PA, Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Bangor, PA, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Schenectady, NY, Saint Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church in Guilderland, NY, Saint Dunstin Catholic Church in Glastonbury, CT and finally at Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, FL.
Nothing meant more to Johnny than his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He was devoted to them and did everything in his power to keep the family together, through thick and thin.
Johnny is survived by his devoted wife, Rozanne Turtzo DeNardo, whom he married in 1963. He is also survived by three daughters; Jenifer DeNardo Walsh(Donald) of Cheshire, CT, Erin DeNardo Andrew(Peter) of Rotterdam, NY, Mary Beth DeNardo Zendzian of Estero, FL and son, Michael DeNardo of Hoboken, NJ. Johnny is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Cara & Patrick Walsh of Cheshire CT and Maria & Jack Andrew of Rotterdam, NY. He is also survived by a sister, Marie Donna DeNardo Ranze (Richard) of Palm Harbor, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Angelina DeNardo Lanari in 1988.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM at Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church 28290 Beaumont Rd., Bonita Springs, FL 34134.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stratton VA Medical Center Patient Needs Fund, c/o Voluntary Services, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.
