John Henry Depew, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away on March 29, 2026, in
Powell, Texas, at the age of 81.
He was born on September 26, 1944, in Seafeld, Austria, and carried with him throughout his life the strength, discipline, and quiet dignity that would come to define him. John lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for the simple and meaningful things that made life rich. He was known by those who loved him as a loving, courageous, and kind man whose presence brought comfort and steadiness to those around him.
John dedicated 25 years of honorable service to the United States Air Force, where he served as a meteorologist. His work reflected both his intelligence and his commitment to duty, and he took great pride in serving his country with integrity. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued to live with the same sense of purpose and resilience that guided him throughout his career. He spent 18 years in civil service following his time in the Air Force. His years of military service remained one of the great accomplishments of his life, and he was respected for the dedication and professionalism he brought to his work.
He earned his bachelor's degree and valued education as a meaningful part of his journey. Beyond his professional life, John found joy in ranching and in the life it represented. He loved being surrounded by the land, the animals, and the honest work that came with it. He especially loved his dogs and cows, and he took great pleasure in caring for them. He also enjoyed playing Game of Thrones, finding entertainment and enjoyment in the stories and characters that captured his interest.
John is survived by his wife, Roberta Depew; his sons, Jeff Depew, Jim Depew, Joel Depew, and Jay Depew; his daughter, Julie Depew Bell; and his grandchildren, Chelsea Depew Kortright, Shelby Silva, Sabrina Silva, Jessica Depew, Jade Depew, Cameron Depew, and Olivia Depew. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Olivia and Alexander, who brought added joy to his later years. His family was one of the greatest blessings of his life, and he cherished each of them deeply.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Teresa Depew, and his daughter, Jodie Marie Depew. Their memory remained close to his heart, and he carried their love with him throughout his life.
John Henry Depew will be remembered for his steadfast character, his devotion to those he loved, and the quiet strength he brought to every chapter of his life. He leaves behind a legacy of service, family devotion, and enduring kindness. His memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him, and his life will continue to be honored with gratitude and affection.
