John Derrick Samuel Davis

John Derrick Samuel Davis, age 57, of Cottondale, Florida, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2023. He passed peacefully with family around him in Dothan, Alabama.
He was born August 10, 1965, in St. Catherine, Jamaica to Johnathan and Sarah Davis. He met Margaret thirty-seven years ago and they married on July 23, 1988. This year would have made 35 years of marriage for them.
John was a hard worker, supporting his family. For 30 plus years, he was a resident of South Florida. Five years ago, he and his family moved to North Florida, and greatly enjoyed their time here.
He had various struggles due to his battle with lupus. John had a variety of interests and enjoyed various hobbies. He loved looking at the night sky with his telescope, flying drones, eating Publix apple pie, and watching detective and cooking shows. His service dog, Lady, was his trusted companion. They loved playing catch and going for walks together. John, Margaret, and Lady took many trips to the botanical gardens, which they all enjoyed. One of John's favorite parts of moving to North Florida was driving through the countryside, especially when he got to see white-tail deer.
The most import thing to John was spending quality time with friends and family. He is known most as our "old man", and the "paw paw" of the family. Our family will always have a place at the table and in our hearts for John.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnathan and Sarah Davis. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Davis; two sons, Johnathan Davis and his wife, Fatima, Joshua Davis and his wife, Asia; three daughters, Candice Causey, Cristie Sanchez, Faith Crianza and her husband, Curt Crianza; nine grandchildren; five sisters; Odell, Juliet, Victoria, Joanne, and Vanessa; two brothers, Winston and Clinton; and the Davis family also took in four foster children over the years, one of which was Heather Andrews who has remained a part of the family.
The Memorial service will be 11:00 AM CDT Saturday, August 12, 2023, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Pastor Joe McCallister officiating.
