John Charles Deveny Obituary
March 20, 1945 to June 18, 2025
John Charles Deveny, age 80, was born and raised in Charleston WV, to the late John Augustus Deveny, Jr and Florence Lakin Deveny. He has lived in Gwinnett County since 1982.
John graduated from Greenbriar Military Academy. He received a BA in History at West Virginia University, An RN degree from Christ Hospital, Jersey City, NJ and a DC degree from Pennsylvania Chiropractic.
John was a medic in Viet Nam for the US Army Corp of Combat Engineers. This experience led him to the medical profession. He was a Charge Nurse for a Psychiatric Hospital for ten years. He then had a Chiropractic practice in Norcross, GA
John was always reading at least 3 to 4 history books at a time. John was well-versed in the Bible and enjoyed contributing in Bible study. He loved classical music, and spent many hours carving and painting. He especially enjoyed watching College Football and old movies, many with subtitles.
John was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Augustus Deveny, III Akron, Ohio and James Lakin Deveny, Okala, Fl.
John was lovingly married to his wife, Holly Rex Deveny of 55 years. He had four sons, Charles Rex Deveny (deceased) Matthew John Deveny (Amber Duncan), B. Clayton Deveny (Kendra Cook) and Andrew Thomas Deveny (Samantha Tetro). John has three beautiful granddaughters, Lucina Rae, Sadie Rose and Isabelle Lauren.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation two either Heifer International (providing chickens and small animals to needy families) or NPR Public Broadcasting - two of John's favorite charities.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 12 at 2PM at ST Mary & ST Martha Episcopal Church, 434 Ridge Rd, Buford, GA The Family will receive friends before the Service and at a Reception to follow the service.
