John Dinsmore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, Inc. & Private Crematory - Norwood on Nov. 14, 2025.
John "Jack" Patrick Dinsmore, 94, a resident of Devon, PA, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, at the age of 94 after a ten-year journey with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sisters, and his loving wife of 44 years, Dulcine Dinsmore.
He is survived by his seven children, Dulcine Dinsmore, Susan Masciandaro (Michael), Theodore Dinsmore (Diane), Nancy Graham (Robert), Samuel Dinsmore, Daniel Dinsmore (Katharine), and Andrea Meals, and by his thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Jack grew up in Glenolden, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation from the former St. James High School for Boys, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. He was stationed on a submarine in the Sea of Japan. Recognized for his technical abilities, Jack had the opportunity to advance to the officer corps, but he chose to return home in the mid-1950s to begin a family. He married his beloved wife Dulcine in 1957, and he started a long and distinguished career as a technician with the Bell Telephone Company.
Jack dedicated his life to his family. He worked tirelessly to support his seven children, whether through picking up extra shifts and odd jobs, or early morning fishing trips on the weekends. He was also an inveterate builder and tinkerer, never contracting out a home improvement project that he could do himself or with his sons. He never bought anything he could make on his own.
Other than spending time with his family and (eventually) grandchildren, Jack enjoyed hosting family cookouts, tending his large garden, and chopping wood. He was a proud Scoutmaster for Great Valley Troop 206; father to three Eagle Scouts and grandfather to two. He received the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, and he was a dedicated Horseshoe Scout Reservation volunteer.
Jack will be remembered most as the patriarch of a large and close-knit family. His two homes, in Pennsylvania and Delaware, were always open, usually with the distinctive music of the Lawrence Welk Show radiating from whatever room Jack was occupying. He loved nothing more than for his family to come by – to enjoy the pool he carefully tended, tell stories, or simply spend time together. Down the shore, Jack enjoyed taking his family on all manner of marine activities – crabbing, clamming, boating, or whatever else came to mind.
The sudden death of his wife Dulcine in 2001 was a difficult blow for Jack, but he adapted and built a new routine with his characteristic nobility of spirit. It comforts his family in this difficult time to know that Jack is now reunited with Dulcine after these long 24 years.
The family is especially grateful to Jack's daughter, Nancy, for her unwavering dedication and loving care of Jack during his struggle with Alzheimer's. She provided him in his final years with the comfort and dignity that he so richly deserved.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Wayne. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the Mass, and all are welcome to join in remembering and honoring Jack.
At Jack's request, the burial will be private.
