Thomas Sopolsky Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, Inc. & Private Crematory - Norwood on Feb. 17, 2026.
Thomas "Tom" Sopolsky, a respected veteran, and beloved member of the Philadelphia community, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, due to complications from metastatic prostate cancer. Born on February 8, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, Tom was a man of integrity and kindness, whose gentle demeanor and interesting character left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Tom was the son of the late John and Irene (Isajewicz) Sopolsky, a loving husband to the late Teruyo Sopolsky, and a dear brother to the late Joseph Sopolsky and Marlene Ellis. He was also the cherished nephew of the late Josephine "Mom" and Bernie Matthews. His legacy continues through his sister-in-law, Diane Sopolsky (late Joseph), brother-in-law, James Ellis (late Marlene); also survived by two nieces.

A proud graduate of Bishop Neumann High School in 1960, Tom's high school years were marked by his athletic prowess on the varsity football team, a foreshadowing of the discipline and teamwork that would characterize his later career. Following graduation, Tom's sense of duty led him to join the U. S. Air Force, where he served honorably for over 25 years. As an aircraft mechanic, Tom's skill and intelligence shone brightly, earning him recognition as an accomplished professional in his field.

His gentle spirit made him a kind presence in any gathering, and his kindness was felt by everyone he encountered. Tom's journey through life was one marked by the lives he touched, and the quiet strength he demonstrated in the face of adversity.

As we bid farewell to Tom, we celebrate a life well-lived and honor the legacy of a man who was truly one of a kind. Tom's departure from this world is not an end but a transition to a place of eternal peace and rest.

Private Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
