Leo Estes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, Inc. & Private Crematory - Norwood on Mar. 2, 2026.
Leo L. Estes "Lee," a longtime resident of Essington, PA, passed away on February 25, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born on May 4, 1939, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Lebert and Marguerite Estes.

Lee proudly served his country as a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps for 14 years. He served as a sea-going Marine aboard the USS Canberra, completing two Mediterranean cruises. Lee served one tour in Vietnam, as a Platoon Commander, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He concluded his military career at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

After returning home to Delaware County, Lee was employed by Hertz Rent-A-Car as Head Mechanic for 17 years. He later continued his service to the community as an elected Pennsylvania State Constable for 33 years.

Lee was a life member of several organizations, including the Tun Tavern Delaware County Marine Corps League, Detachment #288; VFW Fox-Smith Post #4845 (Past Commandant); American Legion Post #777; and the Tinicum Fire Company.

Lee's greatest joy was his family. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with loved ones, and remaining active in the Marine Corps League. He was especially proud of his volunteer work at the Coatesville Veterans Hospital, where he faithfully gave his time in support of fellow veterans.

He was the beloved husband of Yolanda "Lonnie" Estes, with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his children, Leo Estes (Meghan) and Yvonne Gallagher (Andy). He was a devoted Pop-Pop to seven grandchildren: Jaclyn (Paul), Stephanie, AJ (Emily), Sean, Samantha, Marianna (Brian), and Mitchell (Jaterria); and to his great-grandchildren, Claire, Lily, Aidan, Wyatt, and a great-grandson on the way. He is also survived by his siblings, William Estes, Richard Estes, and Margaret Thompson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Tracy DiDomenico, and his brothers, David and Jimmy Estes.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend his viewing on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 9:00–11:30 AM at Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood. Military honors will be rendered at 11:30 AM by members of the U.S. Marine Corps and the Tun Tavern Delaware County Marine Corps League. Private interment will take place at Glenwood Memorial Park, Broomall.
