Robert Perago Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, Inc. & Private Crematory - Norwood on Feb. 26, 2026.
Robert Mac Leod Perago, 90, of Briarcliffe, passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2026, held close by his loving family and reunited with his beloved wife of 57 years, Patricia (Summers) Perago.

Born on November 13, 1935, in Flint, Michigan to the late Gibson and Helene (Mac Leod) Perago, Robert was the eldest of seven: Larry (Paula), Corlene, Patricia, Sharon, and the late Ronald and Christine. He graduated from St. James High School as well as Pennsylvania Military College and proudly served in the United States Army.

In 1960, Robert, better known to most as Bob, married Patricia and together they raised three children, Bobby (Patty), Karen, and Sherry. Bob worked diligently throughout his life, retiring from both Aetna Casualty and Surety Company and Century 21, and in his spare time was a local sports referee and umpire. In retirement, he found happiness working at the CoreStates Center/First Union Center and Lincoln Financial Field, where he affectionately became known as "Poppy" and formed friendships he treasured and often spoke about.

A devoted Catholic and longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima, Bob's faith was a constant guide. As a Eucharistic Minister, he served his parish with humility and gratitude.

Of all the roles Bob cherished most was being Pop Pop. His grandchildren, Christopher (deceased), Shana, Lauren (Paul), Athena, Chelsey, and Briana, and his great-grandchildren, Julia, Tegan, Paulie, and Adeline were the joy of his life. He had a big, soft hand to hold, a warm shoulder to cry on, and a way of bringing lightness to even the hardest moments.

Bob was a man of routine and simple pleasures. He knew what he liked and stuck to it, whether it was Secane pizza, a burger from Applebee's, or his go-to Chick-fil-A sandwich and salad. Bob enjoyed carpentry, boating, golfing with friends, cheering on Philadelphia sports, and simply spending time with those he loved. Summers at Buttonwood Beach in Maryland became a home away from home, a place where lifelong friendships took root and where countless memories were shared with family and the close-knit community around them. You would often find him reading or taking the boat out on the Elk river, or watching the sunsets from his deck with a good cigar. Bob also shared a love of travel with Patricia. From his RV trips with his children to later adventures where they took the grandchildren to other countries, he found joy in exploring the world with the people he loved most.

Those who knew Bob will remember his smile first. He had a calm presence, was resilient and a true gentleman. Bob was incredibly intelligent, a lifelong learner who loved history and always sharing what he knew in a way that made you want to listen. He was also quick with a one-liner and known for his wit, often slipping in a perfectly timed comment that caught you off guard. He could be wonderfully goofy too, especially with family, and those moments are the ones that will stay with us the most.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered as the heart of our family, the anchor of our memories, and the measure of a life well lived.
