John McCafferty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, Inc. & Private Crematory - Norwood on Feb. 25, 2026.
John Charles McCafferty, Jr., 71, of Prospect Park, passed away suddenly at his home on February 23, 2026. He is now reunited with his soulmate and beloved wife, Linda D. (Nowrey) McCafferty.

Born in Chester, PA, he was the son of the late John C. McCafferty, Sr. and Margaret (Dougherty) McCafferty.

John married Linda in 1980, and together they built a life and raised their family in Prospect Park for more than 37 years. He worked as a chemical operator for a few pharmaceutical companies, most recently retiring from GlaxoSmithKline in October 2025.

John was known for his dry, quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor and he never hesitated to let you know exactly what he thought. Beneath that tough exterior, however, was a man who loved deeply. He worried often, because he cared so much, and he would go above and beyond to make sure his children and grandchildren were safe, supported, and taken care of. Providing for and protecting his family was one of his greatest sources of pride.

He enjoyed time in the Pocono Mountains, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, and most of all, being with his family. His greatest joy in life came from his children, and especially from his four beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his two children, Erin (Jeffrey) and John (Sara), and was the proud "Poppop" to Ella, Daisy, Finn, and Maverick, whom he loved and cherished more than anything. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Patricia (Phillip) and Shirley (Robert), along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

John leaves a tremendous hole here on earth, but his family finds comfort knowing he is once again beside his best friend.

Family and friends are invited to John's visitation on Wednesday March 4th from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood. A Prayer Service will follow at 2:00 pm. Interment Private.
