John Dorris Obituary
John Finley Carter Dorris, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in West Branch, MI at the age of 82. He was born on Monday, November 15, 1943, in Gallatin, TN, to Finely Carter and Margaret Gertrude (Rau) Dorris. He lived a full life filled with many wonderful times spent with family and friends. John has lived on the family property in West Branch for over 15 years previously from Lapeer.
John graduated from St. Lawrence Catholic School in Utica, MI, where he grew up. He was a hardworking man who dedicated many years to owning and operating his own construction company, Dorris Construction. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, hunting, and keeping busy with various projects.
John leaves behind his beloved family, including his son John (Tammy) Dorris of Gaylord, MI; daughter Celia (Jeff) Curtis of Oxford, MI; son Shawn Dorris of Lapeer, MI; daughter Gwenna (David) Thompson of Romeo, MI; son Aaron (Dianne) Dorris of Davison, MI; son Chad Dorris of Metamora, MI; daughter Kristle Dorris of Almont, MI; along with nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Doan.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Carol and Ruth.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Homes - West Branch, located at 109 E. Houghton Ave. West Branch, MI 48661. A graveside service will take place the next day, Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, West Branch, MI 48661.
John’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
