I met John the first day of high school at Aquinas. We sat next to each other. Our friendship continued through high school, college at UD, and beyond. After college John and I worked together briefly for his uncle's construction company and some other jobs. I saw John many times in the past few years, encouraged him to play golf more, and this September, just two months ago, we had drinks on the pier at O'Laughlin's in Rochester while watching the sun go down over the lake. He was still the same guy I met in high school.
Condolences to all of John's family. He'll be missed. And to those of us still here to remember John, never forget what Warren Zevon said before his passing, 'enjoy every sandwich.'

My Deepest Sympathies to all of John's family.
To his children, I was there for each and every one of your births. I watched you all develop through most of your school years. Jonathan we were Buddies. I'm proud of you Johnathan. Of You, Megan, Shawn, and Kendall. I'm so, so sorry your Pop has passed. I loved him, too.
I'll love you all forever.
Friends.
Friends may go their separate ways.
Brothers.
But John, Dickie, and I were Brothers.
Three Brothers to the end, and Forever ...
Let's see, we were neighbors, elementary and high school chums, baseball teammates, hunting and fishing buds, "road-trip" partners, and roommates a few times. Ok, I'll tell ya. One time (one semester for me) in Dayton we were across the street from seven floors of student nurses. Our house was signed with "Dept of Theological Studies."
I have hundreds of anecdotes. Some serious (not many), some
gut-wrenching hysterical.
Thanks for everything, John. Love ya, Forever!
Forever ...

I don't know if it was the first, but living with John on Apple St in Dayton and watching him play the landlord chess for his share of the rent.
What a great guy, always cheerful. He will be missed, but I'm sure we were all better for knowing him.

Being a childhood friend of John´s children, I have very fond memories of John getting his hands on dry ice for an incredible Halloween display, my first experience on a zip line, footballs and baseballs being thrown at me with a little more pace than expected, instruction on how to properly close the driveway gate, and endless graph paper scratch pads from his work. It´s funny how the little things come to mind when I reflect on being part of his life from an early age. I feel fortunate to have had some time with him this summer to catch-up.
