John Robert Dunn, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the age of 74. He was born on June 14, 1951, in Massillon, Ohio to the late Howard and Betty Pickens Dunn. John was a cherished resident of Marietta, Ohio, where he spent his later years surrounded by family and friends.
He was a proud graduate of Massillon High School in the Class of 1969. Following graduation, John served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He then dedicated over thirty years of his life to serving as a Diesel Electric Engineer with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
John's love for football was well-known among his family and friends. He proudly played for the Massillon Tigers and was an avid supporter of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Football, rarely missing a game. His passion for music, especially classic rock, was a constant source of joy and comfort throughout his life. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work and country, and his passion for the simple joys in life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his loving children, Jon (Diana) Dunn, Steve (Laura) Dunn, Stephanie (Bill) Schumacher, and Matthew Dunn, as well as his nine cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Suzanne (Calvin) King and Jayne Gore.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dan Dunn.
A private graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, where John will be laid to rest with full military honors, a testament to his service and dedication to his country.
