John Dussel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barndt Funeral Home - Wayne on Sep. 18, 2023.
John H. Dussel, 82, passed away at his home on September 17, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. John was born on April 30, 1941 to Herbert and Mary (Weber) Dussel in Ravenna, Ohio. He married Geraldine (Gerry Mae) Feighner on February 26, 1961. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2006.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1959-1962. During his time in service he was stationed in Korea as a mechanic.
John operated his own welding and fabrication shop in Bradner for sixty years. He was especially known for the many sprint cars he built in his shop for his family to race. He skillfully taught the welding trade to his son and grandchildren. Upon his retirement from Honeywell in 2001, John continued his welding and fabrication career working on many projects around Wood County. It was at this time, he also began his love for restoring and pulling antique Allis Chalmers tractors. He spent his summers at S.C.R.A.P. events and anywhere they were pulling tractors. He ended his passion with tractor pulling last month with ten straight first place finishes with his final winning pull on August 12, 2023 with the help of his longtime friend, Doug Kern. He was also an avid hunter and trapper.
John is survived by his son, John L. (Barb), Wayne; Sherry Gladieux, Pemberville; Cindy Schroeder (Dan), Bradner; Shelly Hagedorn (Jeff), Walbridge; Julie Kauffman (Brian), Risingsun. Grandchildren, Jenny, Amy, Henry, Jill, Gabrielle, Brian, Benjamin, Michaella, Jacob, Sydney and Savannah, eight great grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Tom Dussel, Tim Dussel, Christine Bressler and George Dussel and his trusted canine companion, Thor. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gerry, parents and sister, Sue LaPlant.
Contributions in John's honor may be gifted to Sandusky County Restorers of Antique Power (S.C.R.A.P.) Tractor Pullers. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne, OH with burial immediately following at Bradner Cemetery with full military honors performed by the Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338.
