John L. Eckhardt (73 years, 4 months, 16 days) was born on October 2, 1951, in Oxford, NE, to Art and June (Hoffman) Eckhardt. John passed away on February 17, 2025, at his home in Holstein, Nebraska.


John attended school in Calhan, CO, until 8th grade, prior to moving to Guide Rock, NE. John graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1969 and furthered his education at CCC in Hastings, NE, before opening A&J Autobody with his father. He went on to work for Dana Cooperation, Eaton Cooperation, and Flowserve all in Hastings, NE. 


In 1971, he was united in marriage to Lora (Princ) and to this union, two sons were born, Michael and Craig. John was later married to Anna (Bourg) in 1989, and with her, Amy, Tricia, and BJ were added to his family.


John was an avid outdoorsman, master mechanic, and fixer of all things.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Judy Bolte; a granddaughter; and his partner-in-crime, “Fred” Imhoff. John is survived by his sons, Mike (Suzanne) Eckhardt of Mankato, KS, and Craig (Miki) Eckhardt of Holstein, NE; sister, Carol (Ron) George of Eclectic, AL; numerous grandchildren, family members, and friends.


A celebration of John’s life will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Holstein Fire Hall between 3-5 pm. A proper send off at Cow Town will begin at 7 pm that evening. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Team Jack Foundation PO Box 607, Atkinson, NE 68713, to help fund Pediatric Brain Cancer Research.
