John Elder Obituary

John Francis "Jack" Elder passed away peacefully at Norton Audubon Hospital on Friday, November 24, 2023, after a long battle with dementia and congestive heart failure, less than a month from his 93rd birthday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Viola Elder and his six siblings, infant sister Mary Pat, Hilarian Lattus (Tom), Gene (Frances), Margaret Wheatley (Bob), Donnie and Sister Mary Naomi, SCN. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Winifred Reilly Elder "Winnie", and his two sons, Jack (Judy) and Dick (Gileen). He was Pop to five grandchildren, Chris (Annie), Kyle (Carey), Katie, Nicholas and Reilly (Cassandra). He was Great Pop to four great-grandchildren, Aynsley, Tucker, Clara and Lucy. He was Big Jack to 33 nieces and nephews and their families.
Jack grew up in the St. Theresa, Rhodelia, KY area; graduated from Meade County High School, served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was retired from DuPont.
He was a founding member of St. Ignatius Martyr Parish, a longtime member of the Cathedral of the Assumption and most recently a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Louisville.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, December 1st at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 2nd at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3928 Poplar Level Road, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Chantel, April, Mary and Nancy, as well as the Hosparus team who helped with his care for the past year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Family Church or to Hosparus of Louisville. Online condolences may be shared at www.ratterman.com.
