John Churchill Emms Jr.

High Point – John Churchill Emms, Jr., 83, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Born December 22, 1942, in Jersey City, New Jersey, John was the son of the late John Churchill and Ann Marie Raccippo Emms. While rooted in northern Jersey, John always held a deep affection for New York. He often shared stories of growing up on the city streets and could frequently be found cheering on his favorite team, the New York Yankees. John was a Dispatcher for Hess Oil Company prior to retiring to High Point, NC to be closer to his family.

John enjoyed listening to music, watching crime shows, and reading, especially anything to do with firefighting and fire equipment. He was often content spending time with the simple activities he loved most. Above all, his greatest joy was his family. He cherished time with his son and grandsons-whether attending baseball games, watching movies, or enjoying trips and meals together.

John was deeply loved by those who were honored to call him family and will be remembered for his stories, his quiet joys, and the love he shared with those closest to him.

John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann Roberts Emms; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Abigail Emms; and two grandsons, Gavin and Logan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church officiated by Rev. Father Baiju Paul. Interment will follow in Guil-Rand Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
