Our wonderful mother, Lois (Joy) King Linthicum, went home to be with the Lord and our father on March 6, 2026.
She was born February 13, 1925, to Will and Ocie King, who she is preceded in death by. Also, a sister Margaret Blackburn, brother Kermit King, an infant son Kerry Wayne and an infant daughter Jane Marie.
She was married to the late William B. (Dubb) Linthicum July 9, 1942. He passed June 20, 1985. Their children include Pat Carrick (Ron), Danny Linthicum (Carol), Tammye Ritter (David) and cousin, Phyllis Brower (James). Grandchildren include Chad Carrick (Lynn), Dylan Ritter, Abbye Ritter Morsell (Josh) and Jennifer, Jimmy & Heather Brower. Great grandchildren Kelly Carrick and Sean Morsell. She also had nieces and nephews she loved very much.
She was a long-time member of Oak View Baptist Church. On December 18, 1998, she married Jack Moran. Jack was a kind and caring man. He passed on October 30, 2011. She was as our dad would say "the best there ever was", and as a mother she was unmatched.
She loved working in her flowers, sewing, reading, crosswords, playing rummy and scrabble. She also loved going to the beach, old movies, shopping and could always be found in the pocketbook section. She loved all the many pets we had over the years. She was a lovely lady and never looked her age. She was called Joy from a young age and truly lived up to it. She was a joy to be around. Everyone loved her and she had many friends.
Our family will miss her greatly and we feel so fortunate to have had her for so long. She loved her family very much and showed it in many ways.
We would like to thank all the care givers at River Landing at Sandy Ridge who took care of mom and helped to make her last years the best they could be.
Mom said our dad has been waiting for her for a long time, he's not waiting anymore.
There will be a memorial service held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in the Healthcare Multipurpose Room with Chaplain Robbin Mundy officiating.
Memorials can be made to Friends in Need Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 1641 Lexington NC 27293 or Hospice of Piedmont.
