John William Errickson (known by many as Bill), 77, from Metuchen, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025 in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Bill spent his last days reveling in the sun at his favorite place surrounded by his family and friends.
Born April 25, 1947 to Betty (Thompson) and John Errickson in Deans, NJ, Bill was a lifelong resident of Metuchen. Following his graduation from Metuchen High School in 1965, he obtained a B.S. in Mathematics from Marshall University ('70), married his high school sweetheart, Diane Reuter, in 1970, and proudly served in the Army in Vietnam ('70-'72). After being honorably discharged as a highly decorated First Lieutenant, he received his MBA from Rutgers University ('74). His professional career included several years as an Accountant at Price Waterhouse and over 30 years as a Professor at Middlesex County College, while being self-employed as a CPA. When he was not working, he could be seen coaching Little League Baseball or Metuchen Grapplers. Upon early retirement, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, grilling, and gathering with his fellow Metuchen Elks.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Diane; their children: Jaren Wright of Fayetteville, GA, and spouse David, Jason Errickson of Metuchen, NJ, Jamie Harradine of Kambah, Australia, and spouse Michael; his five grandchildren: Braeden Wright, Riley Wright, Finley Errickson, Ava Harradine and Mia Harradine; and his sister, Ronnie Robbins of Tallahassee, FL. He also leaves behind an endless line of lifelong friends and their families.
Bill was known for his jovial personality and playful antics. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures, usually with a scotch in one hand and a cigarette in another. Over the years, many will have remembered him as a family man, athlete, lover of numbers, and avid storyteller. Bill captivated any audience who would listen. His infectious smile and hearty laugh made him the life of every party.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 2-4pm with services starting at 3:15 pm, at Costello- Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider donating to the Metuchen Elks Lodge 1914 to support their scholarship fund for Metuchen High School students as well as their work with Veterans.

Thank you, wild Bill
For the life ride, beginning in grade school hunting for muskrats, then competing with Metuchen football,on to Marshall to share an apartment and fraternity along with George and mentoring me through physics to open the door for medical school. To the frequent times that you had to assist in finding my frequent errant golf shots and regrettably our premature embrace and tear on New Smyrna beach.
Godspeed
