John Eufinger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ingram Funeral Home - Marysville on Mar. 30, 2026.
John M. Eufinger, 79, of Marysville, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, March 27, 2026, at his home.

The youngest of three children, John was born November 14, 1946 in Champaign, Illinois, to Anthony and Margaret "Peg" (Borchert) Eufinger. A 1964 graduate of Flint Central High School, his athletic side flourished as a wrestler and football player. He continued his athletic endeavors as a student at Ohio Wesleyan University where he was both a football and lacrosse player. After graduating from OWU in 1968, he spent a year in the U.S. Army Reserve as a military policeman, beginning a decade of service. In 1969 he was accepted into the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University. John's beloved Charlotte was a fellow classmate, and they married on September 4, 1971. When they graduated from law school together in 1972, they were the first married couple to do so.

John's law career was extensive and fulfilling. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1972 and practiced with the Ohio Attorney General Environmental Law Office. In 1976 he joined the William L. Coleman law practice alongside his wife, Charlotte, father-in-law William Coleman, brother-in-law Stephen Coleman, and in later years attorneys Tim Aslaner and Victoria Moledor. He remained in private practice for 34 years and in 2010, he left and became Chief Legal Counsel for the Ohio School Facilities Commission. In 2011, he was appointed as a Delaware County Juvenile Court Magistrate, a position he held until 2013. John was also past president of the Union County Bar Association and Chair of the Union County Democratic Party Central Committee. He served four terms as a Paris Township Trustee and spent time as a Marysville Assistant City Law Director. John sat on the boards of both the Union County Foundation and the Central Ohio Symphony. He occasionally served as a visiting judge for good friend, Kevin Pelanda.

John's service extended far into the community. Both he and Charlotte served as advisors to the Marysville High School Mock Trial team, and he often allowed students to shadow him while he worked. He was a man of strong faith, and he, alongside Charlotte, faithfully attended Trinity Lutheran Church where he was twice president of the church council, and served on the Trinity Lutheran Church School Board. He had a love for the Boy Scouts of America that began when he was young, something he shared with his family while growing up. Over the span of more than 30 years, he served as Scoutmaster of Troop 101 and he was incredibly proud of the Scouts who achieved Eagle status under his guidance.

Extensive travel with Charlotte and his family was a deep love for John. Together, they traveled to five of the seven continents through the years, enjoying vacations with their children, Tony and Mary, daughter-in-law Megan, granddaughter Kate, and John's sister-in-law Rose Anna. They had a special love for traveling to German Christmas markets, but the most frequent and cherished spot was The Stratford Festival in Ontario, where John and Charlotte honeymooned. John and Charlotte also share many wonderful memories with their Gourmet Club that they have been a part of for more than 48 years.

Earnest, hardworking, and dedicated, there were many facets to John outside of his care for his community. He enjoyed everything, from marvel comics and goofy movies to sincere and beautiful pieces from his favorite symphonies and operas. He found joy in the smallest things, especially his cats and his birds, obsessively making sure the bird feeders outside were full. He found sanctuary in his library and found special peace within his books. Family was everything to John, he deeply loved Charlotte and the incredible life they made together - his children and his granddaughter were his greatest legacy.

John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlotte Coleman Eufinger; son and daughter-in-law Tony & Megan Eufinger; daughter Mary Eufinger; beloved granddaughter Charlotte Kathryn Eufinger; sister Karen Klein; in-laws Laura Eufinger, Tom (Pat) Coleman, Stephen (Mary) Coleman, Rose Anna Coleman Kolar and Mike (Melissa) Coleman; many nieces and nephews who were a great source of pride and whom he loved dearly; as well as the many boy scouts and dear friends he made through all of his life experiences.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Joe Eufinger and brothers-in-law Arnold Klein and Bill Coleman.

Visitation will be held from 11a-2p and 5p-7p on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville. Funeral services to celebrate John's life will be held at 2 pm on Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 311 E. 6th St., Marysville with Pastor Stephen Kimm and Dr. Bob Ahern officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service time, beginning at 1 pm. Private family burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Union County Foundation in support of the Eufinger & Schulze Fund, which assists scouts with funding for Eagle Scout projects in Union County and the surrounding area – something very dear to John's heart.

Charlotte and the Eufinger family would like to thank all of their friends and the Marysville community for their incredible outpouring of love and support this past week.

Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve John's family, and condolences may be expressed to them at www.IngramFuneralService.com.
