John E. Evanko

1939 - 2025

HOLTWOOD - John E. Evanko, 86, of Holtwood, passed away on July 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Clearfield, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Yatta) Evanko.

John graduated from St. Francis High School, Clearfield, in 1957, where he played basketball and baseball. He enlisted in the PA State Police in 1960 and retired after 30 years of service. He was stationed in Franklin, Corry, and Lancaster. After retiring from the PSP, John worked as a Lancaster County Detective for 10 years.

John was a true family man and loved and supported his family. When Collin played baseball, he never missed a game or practice. When they needed a coach, or an umpire behind the plate, he was the first to volunteer.

John is survived by Carol (Rhone), his wife of 62 years; his daughter, Wendy McComsey and her husband Mark; son, Brian and his wife Dawn; and his grandson, Collin, the light of his life.

He is also survived by two sisters, Rose (Dan) Collins of Clearfield, and Judy (Bob) Sass of Drums; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Evanko of Slippery Rock, along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John is also predeceased by his brother Albert Evanko.

A memorial service will be held at St Paul's Lutheran Church, 222 N. George St. Millersville, PA 17551, on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 1 p.m. Pastor Mark Kopp will officiate. Interment will be in the memorial garden at the church. Please dress comfortably, casual attire is welcome.
