John Fensick, 98, of Bristol, died on December 17, 2024. John, a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, was born in Forestville, CT on Feb 17, 1925, the son of John Fensick and Sophie (Kuzaik) Fensick. John was the beloved husband of Joan (Castellani) for 67 years. John proudly served in the US Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945 as a machinist mate on LST 667 and saw action in the South Pacific during the liberation of the Philippines. Upon his return from the war, John was initially employed at Mines Shoe Store before he began his career at Humason Spring Company and Stanley Works where he began as a machinist and eventually became a buyer for the plant, retiring in 1987. John spent most of his retirement at his home on Vance Road, Bristol, eventually moving to his present residence where he lived for the past 15 years. John was an avid Bristol American Legion Baseball fan, making many New England trips to watch them play. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Peaqubeck Country Club. During his final years, he golfed at Westwood Country Club where they treated him like royalty. John also enjoyed playing softball and bowling, a passion that he continued for many years. Joan and John spent a lot of their retirement traveling throughout the world visiting family in Europe and the United States, golfing in the Caribbean, and attending many ship reunions around the country. He loved to attend the 1943 Bristol High School Class Reunions. John especially loved the new friends he made at his present residence and looked forward to all their social gatherings. John especially loved the people at his new residence who became the brothers and sisters he never had. He was also a member of the ELKS and the American Legion. His wife predeceases John and leaves two daughters, Linda and Edward Baehr of Gardiner, ME, and Sandy and Tom Rimmer of Burlington, CT, and five grandchildren: Veronica (Kevin), John (Courtney), Valerie (Nick), Scott (Martina) and Amy (Dave) and six great-grandchildren, Ben, Cameron, Owen, Isabella, Olivia, and Lucy. John will be buried with his beloved wife, Joan in the spring and with military honors at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Sandy, Our condolences to you and your family. I knew your parents from my years as Manager of The Burlington Inn. They were a wonderful couple I always enjoyed seeing. Your Dad was a great guy, one who will be missed by all who knew him.

We are so glad we got to spend some time with Mr. Fensick two months ago when we visited and brought him some food. He shared his military experiences with us and we are so happy to have taken this photo of him. He was a wonderful man. Thank you John for your bravery and service in the Navy during WWII. We send our prayers and condolences to his family and friends. Sincerely, Marianne and Gary Roy, World War II Legacy Foundation.
