John A. Flaherty, Jr.

FLAHERTY, JOHN A., JR. died Dec. 6, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Washington, D.C. on February 23, 1932. Resided in Calvert County, MD from 1965 until 1977 when Altamonte Springs, FL became his home. John was a veteran of the Korean War, retired from the Federal Government where he worked as an offset pressman for Andrews Air Force Base, and along with his wife Shirley raised exotic birds. Mr. Flaherty was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Sr. and Minnie Flaherty; Mary Flaherty Swan (sister), Edward A. Flaherty (brother). He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Owen Flaherty; daughter, Patricia A. Flaherty of Altamonte Springs, FL; granddaughter, Jennifer S. Smith (Gordon) of Lusby, MD, Maria D. Rex (William) of Deltona, FL; great grandchildren, Michael Smith of Lusby, MD, Trent Rex of Deltona, FL, Rachel Rex of Deltona, FL, Samantha Smith of Lusby, MD; two sisters, Margaret Flaherty and Patricia Tuma of Baltimore, MD plus many loving relatives and friends. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, December 11 at 1 p.m. at the West Altamonte Chapel of the Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, 90 Weathersfield Ave., Altamonte Springs, FL.
