John M. Fliss, 75, of Davenport, Iowa passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
The family is extending an invitation to friends and family to join us for a celebration of John's life, which will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Wilton Community Center, Wilton, Iowa. A reception to share memories about John will follow the service. If planning to attend the reception, please send names to Heather, call/text: 309-738-2297 or to Amber, call/text: 319-538-4941.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, IL. John gave the gift of life through organ donation. Memorials may be made to family.
John Martin Fliss was born August 13, 1947, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Harry and Bernice (Chamberlain) Fliss. He married Dyann Bieber on September 23, 1972 in Davenport, Iowa.
Second to the love of his family, John's passion in life was entertaining people with his music. Along with his best friend of 52 years, Tim Dirth, John formed his first band in 1976, called Wild Country. Throughout his musical career, he was a member of various bands, and most recently he entertained at senior living facilities in and around the Quad City area.
John "Fat Kat" grew up on a farm in Wilton Junction, IA. He was treasurer of the Wilton Junction High School, Class of 1965 Alumni Group. After high school graduation, John managed the DX Gas Station in Wilton Junction. He was also involved in auto racing.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dyann, his two daughters, Heather (Pete) Duytschaever, Rock Island, IL and Amber (Joel) McDermott, Galesburg, MI and three grandchildren: Jack, Nick and Nora.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

I knew John from FCC then at MCC. I sat next to him on the Praise Team at MCC and got to know him better. John was a fun guy. I play Tambourine. He really helped me. If I would get off beat he would pound out the beat on his leg to get me back on beat. He was very sweet that way. He never complained about it.
I was very said ot to see him next to me on Sunday.
I really miss him.
