John P. Folmer, 84, of
Cuba City, WI passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 4, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sinsinawa, WI, with Fr. Tom Kelley officiating. Burial with military honors accorded will be in the St. Joseph's Church Cemetery in Sinsinawa, WI. Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9th at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in
Cuba City, WI; also on Wednesday, December 10th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in
Cuba City, WI is serving the family.
John was born on April 14, 1941, the son of Arnold & Lucille (Goffinet) Folmer. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Cuba City High School. After high school, he enlisted in the US Army and later served with the Red Arrow 32nd Division of Wisconsin National Guard.
He married Marilyn M. Wallenhorst on August 9, 1969 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in
Cuba City, WI. Together they owned and operated their family farm, he also worked for Cattle AI Industry. In his later years, he drove tour buses for Tri-State Tours, and drove vehicles for Tri-State Auto Auction. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 765 and a 30-year member of Birchwood golf course.
John enjoyed golfing, being with his grandkids, but most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn; 5 children: Steve Folmer of Fitchburg, WI, Dan Folmer of Three Lakes, WI, Tricia (Chad) Firzlaff of Durango, IA, Kari (Brian) Kuhle of Dubuque, IA & Eric (Holli) Folmer of Hazel Green, WI; 9 grandchildren; 4 brothers-in-law: Ralph Wallenhorst, Robert (Marlene) Wallenhorst, Randy Wallenhorst & Royce (Michelle) Wallenhorst; and 2 sisters-in-law, Sue (Dave Huehne) Wallenhorst & Molly Wallenhorst.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers-in-law, Roger & Raymond Wallenhorst, a sister-in-law, Judy Wallenhorst and 2 nephews, Ryan & Steven Wallenhorst.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mercy Hospital & Hospice of Dubuque for the care and compassion shown to John and his family.
