John D. Freeman III passed away in Longmont, CO on May 3, 2025. He was born in Boulder, CO on May 12, 1952 to John D. Freeman Jr. and Mary Freeman. John graduated from Boulder High School in 1970, married Diane Eifler in 1981, and they raised their two sons in Longmont.
John began working at Circuit Images in 1984 where he was a quality control inspector for circuit boards. In 2006, John began working at Ball Aerospace in Boulder, where he provided inspections for satellite projects, including the WISE telescope. John enjoyed traveling for his work and was fortunate to be on site for several rocket launches.
John also enjoyed adventures with Diane, going on many fun trips together, his favorite being an Alaskan cruise. John was an avid outdoorsman, frequently hiking, camping, snowshoeing, cycling, and climbing. John loved to climb with his sons and often talked about how their relationships grew stronger through climbing. He was proud to have worked for many years at Airborne Gymnastics as a climbing instructor, teaching both children and adults how to safely climb and trust in each other.
John was active in his church, Church of the Lookout. He played bass on the worship team, participated in numerous small groups, and provided outreach to those experiencing homelessness as well as those in or newly released from jail. His faith never wavered and he trusted in God's plan for his life. John was always willing to share the gospel with others and pray for them. His gift was one of encouragement to both friends and strangers.
Those that knew John will remember his sense of humor. Quick with wit, jokes, and most of all puns, John was able to make others laugh with ease (or groan).
He is survived by his wife Diane of 44 years, his sons, Andy (Cynthia) of Longmont and Joel (Lori) of Englewood, his sisters, Marsha (John) Haskovec of Longmont and Nancy (Roger) Paddock of West Monroe, LA, and many extended family and friends.
A celebration of John's life will be held on May 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Lookout, 7845 Lookout Rd, Niwot, CO 80503. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wellspring Food Bank at Church of the Lookout or the Denver Rescue Mission.

John was one of the first folks I met at Ball Aerospace. Helped me learn the ropes - what a caring , sincere, and fun-loving man. I loved listening to his stories about growing up in Boulder, adventures in climbing, and family trips. Grateful to have met John and spent a little time together.

Ed and I moved to Colorado from Indiana in 1972. It was at church that we met John and his sisters. John is a wonderful person so friendly, kind an funny. I will always remember John as a dear friend. Bless you Diane. I lost Ed at 44 years as well. Praise God we'll be reunited with them one day.
