Mr. John Christy George, 85, of Margate, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at HCA Northwest Hospital in Margate. He was surrounded by his wife, sons and several of his grandchildren when he passed.
John was born in Cambridge on March 24, 1939 a son of the late Christy and Antoinette (Sotir) George. His parents immigrated to the United States from Albania as teenagers.
He was a graduate of Brighton High School and honorably served with the United States Marines. He married his high school sweetheart, Jessica Falkland, on September 25, 1960 at Our Lady of the Presentation Church in Brighton. The couple had been Waltham residents for more than fifty years before moving to Florida in 2018.
John worked at Polaroid in Waltham for over forty years starting as a mechanic and later becoming the Facilities Manager. John was a big sports fan and especially loved the Red Sox and the Patriots. He played softball for many years and ended up coaching and pitching in the Waltham Softball League in the 1990’s with his sons and their friends. Before that he was a regular player in the Polaroid League.
John was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister, Diane Bonasoro and his brother, Paul George.
John was very proud of his family and leaves his wife, Jessica George of Margate; his children, Christopher George (Christopher Solt) of Plant City, Florida, Cheryl Melanson of Natick, David George (Diane) of Marlborough, Kurtis George (Kari), and Sean George (Andrea), all of Waltham; his grandchildren, Victoria George, Ashley Melanson, Taylor McLear (Casey), Alexis and Makayla George, Olivia Carroll (Joey), and Jarred, Nicholas, Andrew and Danny George; his great-grandchildren, Luke and Blake McLear; his brother, Louis George of California and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember John’s life by gathering for an afternoon wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, September 7th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. immediately followed by his funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will be private.
