John Michael Giugno, born February 3, 1948, passed away after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Michael and Jean Giugno. John is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Robbie Giugno, and their daughters, Rhonda (Joe) Bates and Adrienne (Chris) Hoffarth. He is also survived by his brother Michael (Andrea) Giugno, sister Donna Neary, niece Kelli Jean Neary, John has six treasured grandchildren: Joey, who passed away last summer,Jonah, Adrienne Leigh, Christopher, Aiden, and Dylan.
A native of Rochester's Holy Apostles Church, Deacon Giugno dedicated the first decade of his diaconal ministry to St. Theodore Church in Gates. In 1995, he moved to Rochester's Most Precious Blood Church and then to Holy Rosary Church. His ministry continued at Sacred Heart Cathedral, where he performed baptisms and weddings, assisted at liturgies, and contributed to various ministries, including the Christian initiation program. Reflecting on his service, Deacon Giugno said, "I really enjoyed the people and making friends. I think the best part of my ministry was being with the people, doing weddings and baptisms. I got so close to them." In addition to his religious duties, Deacon Giugno was a longtime building-code coordinator for the City of Rochester. John and his wife Robbie have shared countless memories over the years, enjoying their family gatherings, especially on Sundays. He loved cooking sauce for his family, with nothing bringing him more joy than having everyone together. His love for Christmas was evident as he began decorating the week before Thanksgiving, creating a magical atmosphere that filled everyone with the Christmas spirit. Although he never had a dog of his own, John adored the family dogs and always carried treats in his pocket much to their delight. Deacon Giugno's love for his family, his passion for ministry, and his commitment to kindness have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He taught those around him the importance of family, the joy of bringing people together over a good meal, the power of forgiveness, and the true essence of selflessness. His legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held in his honor at St.Theodore's Church On Friday, July 12, 2024, at 9:30AM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Roswell Cancer Center, 665 Elm Street, Buffalo, NY 14203, where John received experimental treatment in his final years.

As kids, John and I grew up together. His mom is my God Mother. We lived near each other and often played together along with our cousin Joey (Father Joesph Lanzalaco). John was the drummer in my group and we played various venues in Rochester teen clubs. He was always perfecting his style of playing...Joe Morello was his idol. Later in life John perfected the skill of making pen and perfect it he did. As a father and husband he would do anything for his family. I will miss my Pinochle partner. I know you've earned that place in Heaven in how you lived your life and the people you brought comfort to. You will be missed. I put your picture next to Joey's on my computer so I can say good morning and good night to you both each day and we can still remain the three amigo's.

John was the youth group leader and a ccd teacher at St Theodore's during my younger years. He also presided at my wedding and the baptism of my daughter. He was great friend to all and he will be greatly missed. Keeping Robbie and family in my prayers.
