John M. Gomes Sr.

John M. Gomes Sr., known as "Gomesy," of Bridgewater, passed away at the age of 88 on December 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, John graduated from East Bridgewater High School, where he was a talented basketball player. In 1965, he founded his own drywall and plastering business, earning respect for his strong work ethic, fine craftsmanship, and for mentoring others in the trade.

John loved the outdoors, especially fishing, birdwatching, the ocean, and long rides. Music filled his days, and he was often found singing along to his favorite songs. On Sunday mornings, he was happiest making his famous jag and eggs, spiced to perfection with just the right amount of linguiça to suit everyone's taste. He also enjoyed watching programs on the Smithsonian and History channels, with a special interest in World War II. Above all, John cherished his family and was happiest when they were together. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Beloved husband of 66 years to Brenda L. Gomes of Bridgewater. Loving father of Robyn J. Walsh (and her late husband Robert) of Halifax, Tracy A. Gomes and her wife Nandini Natarajan of Connecticut, John M. Gomes Jr. of Walpole, April C. Perrino and her partner Charles Witherspoon of Bridgewater, and Matthew T. Gomes of Halifax. Cherished grandfather of Ashley, Michael, Jasmine, Austin, Noah, Ryan, Abigail, and Brooke, and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 4–7 PM at Chapman Funeral Home, BRIDGEWATER. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 9, 2026, at 10 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater. Burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
