John Winford Goodwin Jr., age 70 of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024 after an extended illness. JR was born December 12, 1953 to the late John Winford Goodwin Sr and Alice Zelma Silvers in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a hard worker, over the years he worked as a truck driver for Atlanta Hardwood and Youngblood Concrete, over 14 years at the road dept for towns county, 23 years as a mechanic, and also served in the Air Force in his younger years. Racing, nascar, wrestling and camping on labor day with his brothers were among his favorite things. He was hard headed as could be but would do anything for his kids and grandchildren who he adored and loved dearly.
JR is preceded in death by his parents; son, John Goodwin III; brothers, Robert Lee Goodwin, John David Goodwin. 
He is survived by his daughters, Jodi Goodwin, Johnna (Kenny) Penrod, Tiffany (Stacy) Hooper, Brooke Payne; brothers, James Goodwin, Jimmy Goodwin, Jerry Goodwin, Jerold Goodwin; grandchildren, Ethan Underwood, Kristen Goodwin, Zyndel Payne, Christopher Payne, Brett Hooper, Oliver Penrod; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Pavis, Jameson Underwood, John Joseph Pavis; a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 5:00-8:00pm at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 2:00pm at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Trotter officiating. Interment to follow at Burch cemetery.
Pallbearers: Kenny Penrod, Zyndel Payne, Christopher Payne, James Parent, Stacy Hooper, Brandon Dotson
