John A. Goodwin Jr., affectionately known as “Jr.,” age 81, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, in Southport, Connecticut. He was born on March 2, 1944, in Washington, D.C., to the late John Goodwin Sr. and Dorothy Goodwin.
At the age of 22, John relocated to Connecticut, where he built a life rooted in love, family, and hard work. He was known for his peaceful spirit, sense of humor, directness, creativity, and loyalty. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching Westerns—simple pleasures that reflected his calm and genuine nature.
John worked as an ISP foreman for Bridgeport Hydraulic Company, where his dedication and leadership earned the respect of his colleagues. He was a proud father to his two children, Erika Leigh Goodwin and Brian Goodwin, and lovingly raised his granddaughters, Ninoshka and Daeja Goodwin.
He is predeceased by his parents John Sr. and Dorothy Goodwin; his beloved son Jarrett Goodwin; one sister and four brothers; his fur babies Susie, Muffy, Salty, Champo, Bo, and last of all his twin (brother) Johnny Dye.
John is survived by his devoted wife Ethel (Stella) Goodwin; his daughter Erika Leigh Goodwin; son Bryan Goodwin; two granddaughters whom he and his wife raised Daeja and Ninoshka Goodwin; sister Dorothy Jackson; two brothers Dennis and Melvin Goodwin; two sisters in law Sarah Watson and Delane Rosario (Paul); three brothers in law Napoleon Walton (Jeanett), Harold Walton (Renee), Derane Walton (Marily); his goddaughter Yolanda, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Community Funeral Chapels in Bridgeport, Connecticut. To leave a memory or light a virtual candle in John’s honor, please visit communityfuneralchapels.com.
