John Richard Grieb (1952-2024) of Summerville, SC died unexpectedly on July 13, 2024 due to complications of heart failure.
John was born the third child of six to Melva and Henry Grieb in Baltimore, MD. He grew up playing soccer and baseball. After graduation from Perry Hall High School, John's career started at a young age with the C&P Telephone Company as a residential installer and repair man including climbing telephone poles. John's hard work and ambition propelled him upward and into business and management positions over the years. He retired at age 50 after successfully serving in the role of a Data Systems Manager for Large Businesses for Verizon. He was well respected by his colleagues for his hard work and dedication.
John always knew that he wanted to retire to sunny Florida, and in 2004, he and his wife, Julie, made that dream a reality. John loved to travel and was able to visit numerous enchanting locations with his wife Julie, and their family and friends. John spent many years on the Chesapeake Bay and loved boating and fishing. He loved trying new recipes and cooking for a crowd of friends and neighbors. During his downtime, John loved staying informed on politics and current events. He spent afternoons watching NASCAR and spending time with his beloved dogs, Abby and Amber.
In August of 2023, John decided to relocate to Summerville, SC to be closer to his family and granddaughters. A dedicated father and grandfather, his grandchildren appreciated his humor, his stories, and his generosity. John is survived by his loving wife, Julie, his daughter, Crysta Schaff, and her husband Kaleb Schaff; and his adoring grandchildren, Katarina, Alexandra, and Natalia Schaff, who will miss him dearly.
