John Gritz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNeil's Funeral Service on Apr. 17, 2024.
John Charles Gritz was born on September 8, 1979 to Gary and Vickie Gritz in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2024.
While John left us far too soon, the impact he had on our community will be felt for years to come. John had many titles in his life but his 2 favorites were Husband to Courtney and Father to McKinlee and Addalyn. He was always there for them.
John attended school in Lawton, Oklahoma, later Mustang, Oklahoma and then Western Heights Public Schools where he graduated in 1998. During High School he played football and wrestled. He also threw the discus and shot put. He was actively involved in choir and was a member of the show choir and was chosen for the Baptist All State choir. John furthered his education at Francis Tuttle Vo Tech where he obtained his Respiratory Therapy certification. He then went to Southern Nazarene University for his Bachelors Degree in Organizational Leadership and then his Masters in Business Administration with a Healthcare Emphasis.
John's first job was at White Water and then Buchanan's grocery store where he met the love of his life Courtney Jensen.
John started as a Respiratory Care Practitioner at Baptist Hospital in 2000. He worked in special areas including the Pulmonary Function Lab, Emergency Room, PICU and the NICU. He later worked his way into management at Integris Canadian Valley. He moved to Integris Southwest Medical Center and became the Director of Respiratory Care and Sleep Medicine. John was then promoted to Director of Pulmonary Medicine for the Integris Health System.
John married Courtney on June 29, 2002. Their marriage was blessed with their first child McKinlee in 2008 and their second child Addalyn in 2011.
John lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and girls. He enjoyed building guns, being a member of the Oklahoma City gun club and competitive shooting. He liked to build and fly remote control airplanes, tinkering around in his shop. He was extremely proud of the 1953 Ford F100 that he bought as a pile of rust and completely restored. He loved taking the girls and his niece Sydne to Haunted Houses, he liked scary movies, board games, his guitar and being a prankster and practical joker.
John is survived by his wife Courtney of 22 years, 2 daughters McKinlee and Addalyn. His parents Gary and Vickie Gritz. His brother David and his wife Sharra along with nephews Henry, Matthew and Andrew. John is also survived by his mother-in-law, Debbie Jensen, his sister-in-law, Heather, brother-in-law, Justin, his "only" niece Sydne and his nephew Braden. As well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a multitude of friends.

Courtney, McKinlee and Addalyn,
I have so much respect for your father and husband John. It´s hard to put into words. We have similar interest when it comes to cars and trucks. I knew him as a friend and a coworker for many years. I have always admired him. He especially touched my life when he called and asked me to come back to work out of retirement, during the Covid crisis. I knew that was difficult for him to do, but he took a long shot chance on me. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding things I´ve ever done in my life and I have your dad to thank for that and I can´t put into words how much I appreciate that. I am so sorry for your loss and pray for you daily.
God Bless,
Joe Alesch

I remember that everyone loved John and he was very good at sports bc he was tall. Then I remember hanging out at grandma and grandpas house together when I was little. He always made me laugh and I loved spending time with him.
