John Grose III

GREENFIELD – John W. Grose III, age 77, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on January 5, 1948 to John W. II and Helen Mae (Gates) Grose. He graduated from Hancock Central High School in 1967. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served thirteen months in Vietnam. He married Patricia McGhee on June 6, 1970 in Greenfield, Indiana.
He worked as a custodian for Greenfield Central Schools for over thirty-two years until his retirement. John was a member of the VFW in Greenfield and of the Mt. Lebanon Community Church. He valued the art and craft of woodworking, going antiquing, and loved detailing his cars. John liked being outdoors and loved to spend time under the sun by the pool and the beach. He was also a talented line dancer. John truly valued his family, and he cherished every moment he spent with them.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Grose; son, John Matthew Grose (Kristin); daughters, Cara Garvey (Jon) and Mandy Grose; sister, Linda Kay Richey; ten grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. II and Helen Grose; and brothers, Donald and Larry Grose.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
