John Guiffre Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 21, 2025.
John Joseph Guiffre Sr., of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Binghamton, New York, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, at the age of 84.

Born on November 7, 1941, John lived a life defined by devotion-to his country, his family, and his community. He married the love of his life, Scarlett, the moment he turned 21, beginning a partnership that would last a lifetime. In 1962, John joined the United States Marine Corps as a private. He proudly served two tours in Vietnam, stationed across the U.S. and overseas during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired as a Gunnery Sergeant in Motor Transport, leaving behind a distinguished military career marked by honor and commitment.

After his service, John continued working as a long-distance truck driver before opening and operating his own tractor-trailer business. He loved fishing and golfing, and he was especially proud of the machine shop he built with his son, Eddie. John cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren, always eager to help teach, build, or fix something.

John had the best, most contagious laugh-one that lit up any room and made those around him smile. He had a gift for storytelling and could captivate a room with his humor and wisdom. He believed deeply in helping others and lived by the principle, "If you have enough to share, then share." He generously supported charitable causes, including sending donations to St. Jude's on a regular basis.

He loved visiting with neighbors, riding his golf cart through the community, and enjoying the everyday moments that made life meaningful. Above all, he was deeply proud of his family and grateful for every chapter of the life he built with Scarlett.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Rosario and Marion Guiffre and his four sisters, Marion, Barbara, Josaphine and Connie.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Scarlett; his younger brother, Joseph Guiffre (Debbie); his eldest son, John Joseph Guiffre Jr. (Felice); his second son, Edward Rosario Guiffre; his grandchildren, Kimber Swan (Craig), John J. Guiffre, III (Timmi); and his great-grandchildren, Cecilia-Jane, Luna & Octavia Guiffre, Alleiah Parks, and Jaxen Swan.

There will be a service on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 12:30 pm at:

Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in John's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

You'll always hold a little corner in my heart John and I'll never forget all of the good times dinners we shared as you were passing through Las Vegas. You could always make me laugh with your silly sense of humor and OMGsh, that contagious laugh of yours, I swear I can hear it as I write this. I'll definitely be missing you Buddy, and you can be sure I'll be here to help Scarlett through the tough times and enjoy the better times ahead.
With Love,
Christine "CJ" Johnston
