John Bernard Hakken, aged 67, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 5, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Zobl, sisters Ruth Roosien (Doug) and Mary Okamoto, and brothers Daniel (Lynda), Timothy (Kellie), Matthew (Amy), and Andrew (Cara). John was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Daniel Hakken and Donna Hakken (Hoogerhyde).

John was a graduate of Ottawa Hills High School (Class of 1976) and Hope College (Class of 1980), where he was a proud and deeply loved member of the Knickerbocker fraternity. John started his career as a sales executive with Michigan Bell (later Ameritech) but later transitioned to teach business law and economics at Grand Ledge High School from 1997 until he retired in 2018.

John was a gregarious, fun-loving, and devoted husband, brother, friend, and co-worker. He loved spending time with Susan at their cottage, debating current events, listening to music, watching Tigers baseball, and hunting. He loved his many nieces and nephews like they were his own.

John's celebration of life will occur at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at The Community Church, 7239 Thornapple River Drive SE, Ada, MI, with visitation immediately after the celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John's name to the American Heart Association (https://www.heart.org).
