John Hamilton Obituary

John William Hamilton, Jr. passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the age of 89. He was a native of Dothan, AL and a resident of Metairie, LA. After High School John joined the U.S. Army and became a Ranger in the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War where he earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart and other unit citations and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class. After coming home he met Mary Jane in Hammond, LA and were married in 1959 for 62 years. Beloved husband of Mary Jane Calamia Hamilton. Loving father of John Hamilton, III and Bobby Hamilton (Stephanie). Grandfather of Josh, Brittney, Colby, Brayden, and Ian. Great grandfather of Brent and Brad. Son of the late Gwen Jackson Hamilton and John William Hamilton, Sr. Brother of the late Sister Margaret Hamilton Daughters of Charity, Philip Hamilton and Ann Jackson. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be missed greatly by everyone. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church, 8617 W. Metairie Ave., Metairie, LA on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Visitation at the church from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements by L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home.
