John Hart, 66, passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on August 4, 1959, in Topeka, Kansas, John was the youngest son of Mary Kathryn "Kate" and Wally Hart. When John was a young boy, the family moved to Humboldt. John graduated from Humboldt High School in 1977 and spent much of his life working alongside his father at Humboldt IGA, where he became a familiar and trusted presence to generations of customers. For John, the store was more than a workplace-it was a way to serve the community he loved.
John married Darla Laver in 1978. After the birth of their two sons, David and Joshua, the couple divorced. John raised David and Joshua, whom he loved deeply. As they grew, both sons worked alongside him at the grocery store, continuing the family tradition.
John was known for his quiet generosity, selflessness, and genuine kindness. He treated everyone he met with warmth and respect, and his steady presence touched countless lives.
Above all else, John loved his family. He enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. He was clever and witty, cracking jokes and laughing a lot.
John was an avid reader, amassing a collection of 1000's of books. He shared this love with his parents and several grandchildren. He always enjoyed knowing what they were reading and discussing books.
Whether at work or at home, the time he spent with his family was what mattered most to him. His legacy lives on in the values he passed to his sons and in the many people whose lives were made better by knowing him.
He retired in 2020 and spent the rest of his life caring for his parents in their home.
John was preceded in death by his parents Mary Kathryn (Montgomery) and Wallace Hart and brothers Robert & Joe Hart.
John is survived by his sons David (Kaylee) Hart and Joshua (Sarah) Hart; and his grandchildren, Caleb, Kady, Addison, Asher, Kinley and Carlin Hart.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
A funeral service to honor John's life will be Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the Humboldt Food Pantry, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
