Kathleen "Kathy" Mari (Okerson) Boyer, born on April 5, 1953, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday November 25, 2025, at her residence. She was a cherished member of her family, widely known for her nurturing spirit and her dedication to children.
Kathy’s educational journey began in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she attended local schools before proudly graduating from Humboldt High School with the class of 1971. Her passion for caring for children led her to a fulfilling career in daycare, where she left a lasting impact on countless young lives.
Kathy married Gary Russell on August 25, 1973, in St. Paul, Minnesota they later divorced after 24 years of marriage, and he preceded her in death on January 21, 2025. On September 18, 1999, Kathy married Frank Boyer in St. Paul Minnesota, they were married 26 years.
Kathy was admired for her vibrant personality and love for life. She had a particular fondness for purple and bling, which mirrored her joyful approach to living. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, and lovingly working on her home, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family. Kathy's commitment to her family was evident in everything she did, making memories that will last a lifetime.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Frank Boyer, of Fredonia, Kansas. Kathy's legacy continues through her children, Mindy Russell, Chrissie (Dave) Smith, Jason Russell, Ashley Strawder, and James Boyer. She was a proud grandmother to Devin, Madalyn (Tristan), Justin, Isabella (Jaycee), McKenna, Owen, Emma, Dustyn and Jocelyn. Additionally, she cherished her great-grandchild, Paisley, and looked forward to welcoming another great grandchild soon.
Kathy also leaves behind her siblings: Mark (Lisa) Okerson, Natalie (Bud) Mallin, Missy Okerson, Anita (Earl) Pratt, and Barbie (Jim) Swifka. Her warmth and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Colleen Bellefeville Okerson, her sister Stephanie Okerson, ex-husband Gary, and her grandson Anthony.
Cremation has taken place, with services planned for a later date. Kathy’s spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
