Obituary for John P. Healey
John Philip Healey departed this life on April 14, 2025, to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven. Born on April 28, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio, John lived a life marked by faith, family, and service. He was the beloved son of the late Opal and Mark Healey and was predeceased by his loving wife, Ruth Healey, his brothers Daniel and Andrew Healey, and his granddaughter Natalie Giles.
John's journey of faith began early in life when he was baptized at Resurrection Catholic Church in May 1944, and later when he was led to a deeper faith in Christ through his wife's grandfather, the Rev. Edwin Husmann, a Lutheran pastor. John graduated from Patterson Co-op High School in 1962 and soon after embarked on his professional career at Reynolds and Reynolds, where he worked until 1977. It was during this time that he married Ruth Ellen Hedberg on October 16, 1964 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Dayton, beginning a lifelong partnership founded on love and mutual respect that culminated in celebrating their 50 years of marriage in 2014.
In 1977, John earned his Real Estate License which ultimately led him and his family to relocate to North Carolina in 1980 to pursue his passion for Real Estate. Over the next 30 years he became a well-respected Real Estate Broker in the Triangle area, helping over 1000 families and individuals buy or sell their homes, plus earning numerous sales awards along the way. In addition to his professional pursuits, John and his wife Ruth were also founding members of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cary, NC. John held numerous roles within the church, including serving as congregation president for two years and as the building committee chairperson. His leadership was instrumental in the construction of both the original church building and the new location at 100 Lochmere Drive.
John's commitment to his community was unwavering. He dedicated countless hours to volunteer work with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Pan Lutheran Ministries, and Agape House in Raleigh. Known for his friendly demeanor and hard-working nature, John enjoyed meeting new people and cherished the stories they shared. He had a profound love for children and treasured spending time with his family and friends, both old and new. John often expressed his love for those close to him with special gifts that he would carefully curate from the antique stores he loved to frequent.
John is survived by his brother, Michael Healey, of Dayton, OH; his three daughters Cheryl Giles (Donald), Cynthia Galbraith (James), and Ellen Gooch (Derrick); grandchildren Andrew, Emily, Sarah, Grayson, Adam, Benjamin, Caroline and Katy; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate John's life on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 1 PM at Resurrection Lutheran Church, located at 100 W Lochmere Dr, Cary, NC 27518. A reception will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to In Touch Ministries at www.InTouch.org or a charitable organization of your choice.
In closing, we find comfort in these Bible verses that John treasured: "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." ~ Philippians 4:4-7
