John Frederick Hellmers passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at his residence in Holden, Louisiana, at the age of 90. He was born on Friday, December 14, 1934, in Georgeville, Louisiana.
John served in the Air National Guard, he was secretary for the Livingston Parish Gas Board and he was a member of the Baton Rouge Fire Department. John also had a degree in Agriculture from Southeastern Louisiana University and was employed with International Paper Company as a forester.
John worked many years here at Harry McKneely and Son as a host for visitations, he was always a true gentleman, always kind, always thoughtful, always in a good mood, always funny, we loved John a lot, Always.
John is survived by his wife, Carol Anne Kitchens Hellmers; son, Richard Hellmers (Angie Musgrove); daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Johnny Lavergne; grandchildren, William Hughes, Kaitlyn Baldwin (Christopher), Savanna Prevost (Joseph Reviere); also John's sister, Katie Russell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Hellmers and Hilda Stevens Hellmers.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd., Hammond, Louisiana, on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 12:00p.m. until 2:00p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow in Rosaryville Mausoleum, Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
The family request donations be made in John's name to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org.
