John Russell Henderson

John Russell Henderson, 74, of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on February 11, 1951, John lived a life defined by service, love of family, and simple joys. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later retired after a dedicated career. Outside of work, John enjoyed spending time on the water boating and fishing, and he was an avid fan of science fiction, especially Star Wars and Star Trek.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Susann Pearson; his brothers, Gordon (Linda) Henderson and Clyde Henderson; his children, Jaymi Stevens, Mandy Ellison, and Gary Henderson; and his cherished grandchildren, Jacob and Brayden Stevens, Matthew and Lily Ellison, and Haley, Ayden, and Ansley Henderson. He also leaves behind his faithful dogs, Niko and Paisley, who rarely left his side.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at Currie Funeral Home, 116 E. Church Street, Kilmarnock, Virginia 22482. A funeral ceremony will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Currie Funeral Home, with interment immediately afterward at White Stone Methodist Church Cemetery, 118 Methodist Church Road, White Stone, Virginia 22578.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the compassionate staff of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, Virginia, for the care and kindness they provided during John's final days. They also give thanks to God for allowing John to return to his earthly home in Virginia before calling him to his eternal home in Heaven.

John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who know him.
