John Drew Henning of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away at home on November 3, 2025.

Drew was born on January 24, 1958, in Paintsville, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Robert Henning, and his mother, Billie Huff Henning.

Drew is survived by his brother, Matthew Henning of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his sister, Paige Richmond (Jeff) of Leon, West Virginia; daughter, Jennifer Barker (Mark) of Cross Lanes, West Virginia; son, Ryan Henning (Stephanie) of Ashland, Kentucky; grandchildren, Tre, Austin, Jaxson, and Delilah, and his loyal cat, Renegade. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Avery, Allison, Adam, Dylan.

Drew graduated from George Washington High School in 1976 where he excelled in baseball and track. His love for sports was with him until the day he passed. He was a diehard Chicago Bears and Houston Astros fan, and Nolan Ryan was one of his great sports heroes. He could start up a conversation with another sports fan and share sports statistics anytime he had an opportunity.

Drew also loved music, movie and especially animals. He always had a pet or two following him around and they were always treated as loyal friends. His sense of humor was always one of his greatest personality traits and he could bring a smile to your face any time he cracked a joke or did an impression of a celebrity.

Drew was employed at McJunkin Appalachian for many years and stepped into retirement after working for Kroger for several years.

A Celebration of Drew's life will be held in January 2026. More information will be made available on this website at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, West Virginia 25311.
