Edward Dale Henning

Edward "Ed" Dale Henning, 62, passed away at his home from a heart attack on October 31, 2025 in Worland, Wyoming. He was born on January 17, 1963 in Torrington, Wyoming to Frank Dorsen and Lauraine Marie (Anderson) Henning.
He was the youngest of a blended family that counted 11 siblings – six boys and five girls. He was raised on the homestead along the North Platte River east of Torrington on Highway 26.
After graduation from Torrington High School in 1981, Ed worked on various farms in the Goshen County area for a few years. He eventually moved north to the Big Horn Basin and first lived in the Grass Creek area working on the Ken Hart ranch. From there he moved to Lucerne and had a small farm where he raised his own livestock. He also started a job that had him traveling all over Wyoming doing construction involving heavy equipment, dirt work, grading, and cement work. Ed was a very hard worker and a much-appreciated employee. He became a company supervisor and was a respected boss and true friend to many work crews throughout his career. He was very proud to be able to point out the many highway bridge projects that he worked on in the 80's and 90's in Greybull, Thermopolis, Dubois and other towns across the state.
Ed found property north of Worland and realized his dream of owning his own farm. He was finally able to raise his livestock and grow his own hay to feed them. He was known to have a soft heart for his critters and always looked out for their welfare. Being outdoors and enjoying every season with his animals was a dream fulfilled for Ed. The lucky family member, or good friend who happened to stop by, would be treated to one of Ed's well known "walkabouts" – joining him for a stroll that encompassed the entire perimeter of his property. In the heat of summer, he was sure to offer a cold beer, too.
Ed was always an avid classic car guy and a very experienced mechanic. In the early 2000's he designed and built his own big shop to house his always growing collection of vehicles. His true passion was the Oldsmobile 442 and he was in the process of restoring the '65 Olds 442 that he had owned just out of high school. Ed's knowledge of engines and how to fix them was sought by many family members and neighbors. He considered every job a challenge and enjoyed helping people. If while building something and someone would say, "That's good enough", Ed would reply, "No, it's going to be done right".
Ed married his best friend, Mary Spaeny in 2013 and gained a true-life partner. Together they shared his love of farming, raising animals, and tinkering on cars in the shop. He worked at Washakie County Road & Bridge as the blade operator, maintaining the miles of gravel roads throughout the county. Ed enjoyed interacting with the many landowners that he would meet on each road that he worked on. Seeing the views he had through the window of the blade, Ed shared photos that showed his genuine love of his work and the great outdoors.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Henning and brother, Hobie Henning.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; step-sons, Casey Spaeny and David (Jayde) Spaeny both of Rock Springs, Wyoming; brothers, Charles "Chuck" (Kathy) Johnson of North Platte, Nebraska, Frank (Terry) Henning of Thermopolis, Wyoming, Johnny (Verlanne) Johnson of Highland, Texas and Jim (Jo Ellen) Henning of Gillette, Wyoming; sisters, Susie Ragland of Thermopolis, Billie (Freddie) Redus of Seguin, Texas, Carol (Earnest) Slagle of Kirby, Wyoming and Laura Lee (Gary) Nash of Worland; step-grandchildren: Thuious, Ady and Leo; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.
A celebration of life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Worland Fairgrounds, for family and friends to gather and remember Ed and share his love of 442's. The family asks that everyone feel free to bring your own stories and photos of Ed to share. Ed was a working man, please come as you are.
