John Ray Herivel October 20th, 1932 – July 2nd, 2023
John Ray Herivel was born on October 20th, 1932, in Boulder, Colorado, and was lovingly adopted by Ray and Lucille Herivel at birth. As the oldest among his siblings, with two sisters and one brother, John played a significant role in his family.
After relocating to Englewood, Colorado, the Herivel family settled down, and John attended Englewood High School. His father owned a company that managed concessions at drive-in theaters, where John would often lend a helping hand during his afternoons.
Following a brief period in the Navy, John was honorably discharged. On December 16th, 1951, he married Norma Lee Jennings. Together, they embarked on the journey of building a family and were blessed with five children.
John dedicated over 50 years of his life to owning and operating May Construction Company alongside his business partners, Don and Roy. The company specialized in residential remodels, showcasing John's expertise and passion for construction.
Throughout his life, John actively participated in his community. He served as a community chairman for his son's Cub Scout Packs, demonstrating his commitment to shaping young lives. John was also an active member of the Episcopal Church, where he worked with the youth group in the acolyte program.
In his leisure time, John enjoyed camping trips with his family and engaging in fishing and hunting adventures with his sons and sons-in-law. He and his sons shared countless moments working together, tirelessly rebuilding numerous vehicles. John's unwavering work ethic was a defining characteristic that he instilled in his children.
John is now preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Lucille, his beloved wife Norma Herivel, and his sister Barbra Sausa. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his surviving siblings, Marilou Cannon and Nick Herivel of Arizona.
John's memory lives on through his children: Ted (Kathy) Herivel of Denver, John Herivel of Denver, Belinda (Steve) Rice of Littleton, Teresa (Jeff) Powers of Arvada, and Greg (Christine) Herivel of Thornton. Additionally, he is survived by eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and the joyful anticipation of one great-great-grandchild soon to arrive.
John Ray Herivel's presence will forever be remembered by his loved ones, and his impact will continue to resonate through the generations.
