John Nelson Hersom

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Nelson Hersom, father, grandfather and friend on May 22, 2025. A devoted follower of Christ, John lived a life rooted in faith, service and devotion to others.
John grew up in South Berwick Maine on Goodwin Street. John attended Berwick Academy and at the age of 17 enlisted in the Army. John's duties were as a Radio Operator on the Korean Peninsula. John married Jean Patricia Davis from North Berwick and started a family. John spent his entire career at General Electric in Somersworth, NH, where he specialized in working on meters. His dedication and ingenuity earned him recognition and compensation for several patents. John Hersom also proudly served as the head of the New Hampshire Softball Umpires Association, dedicating many years to mentoring officials and supporting the game he loved. John found great joy in life's simple pleasures-he loved picking blueberries, chopping wood, and faithfully following his beloved New England Patriots. John was an avid runner and participated in the Red Shoe Barn race for decades.
John Hersom was a faithful and active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was deeply committed to sharing the gospel, distributing DVDs and booklets at fairs and markets across Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Along the way, he made countless connections with people from all walks of life, always appreciating their spirits and embracing the joy of fellow human beings. A passionate supporter of Hope TV, John also ministered through his homes, lovingly named 'Share the Joy,' where he welcomed others and spread the word of God with warmth and devotion. He shared this ministry and his life with the love of his life, Sheryl Hersom of Perth, Australia, whose unwavering faith and partnership enriched his mission and brought him great joy.
John Hersom was preceded in death by his loving parents, Grace and Arnold L. Hersom, as well as his brothers, Ricky and Eddie Hersom. He is survived by his sons, Aaron and Jeremy Hersom; his wife's children Nicolas Chiou-Yong Chiew, Luke Chiou-Young Chiew, Daniel John Chiou-Ping Chiew; his daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Stella Hersom; and his grandchildren, Jessica Erazo, Samantha Leatherberry, Olivia Hersom, and Addison Hersom.
The family plans to hold a graveside service this summer.
