Hess – John Hess, age 87, of Callahan, Florida passed from this life on September 10, 2025. He was born in Plankstadt, Germany on April 22, 1938. At the age of 15, John came to America to live with relatives. Joining the United States Navy at the age of 18, John served his new country honorably for the next 20 years, earning medals and praise along the way. He began his naval career as a Seaman Apprentice and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Chief Radioman. On April 24, 1961, John married the love of his life, Nancy. Together they had three daughters, Monica, Marlene and Tricia. Upon completing his military service, John transitioned to a second career with JEA, ultimately serving as an Electrical Supervisor. With unwavering dedication and a strong work ethic, John achieved success in both of his careers. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the same strong work ethic that guided his own life. Even in retirement, John's commitment to growth continued, as he earned an Associate of Science degree at FJC and as a Ham Radio Operator an award for working all states. John and Nancy enjoyed traveling in their RV and visiting their loved ones. Being a Christian man, John came to know Jesus more deeply over time. At the age of 36, he was baptized and made his profession of faith. Among the many things that brought him joy were soccer, chess, sausage, and his favorite chocolate chip cookies. Above all, John's greatest loves were God, his family, and America.

John leaves behind to be reunited in Heaven with his wife, Nancy; daughters, Monica (Brad), Marlene (Doug), and Tricia (James, Sr.); grandchildren, James, II, John, Mark and Becca; and great-grandchildren, James, III, Nico, Luna, Asher and Ada. John will be missed by all who knew and loved him. You will be in our hearts forever until we meet again with Jesus.

The tribute above was prepared by John's loving family.

A Celebration of John's Life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Nassau Funeral Home with Chaplain Daniel Chung officiating.
