John D. Hicks

John D. Hicks, 82, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana surrounded by his family.

Born on November 13, 1942, John was a graduate of Muncie Central High School and went on to build a respected career as an Architect. His work reflected his creative spirit and artistic vision, qualities that defined much of his life. Known for his kindness, generosity, and loving nature, John touched the lives of many through both his professional contributions and personal relationships.

John had a deep love for music and found joy in playing the guitar and mandolin. These passions brought warmth and harmony to those around him and served as a reflection of his thoughtful and expressive character.

He is survived by his devoted spouse, Jill E. Hicks; children, Julie A. Link (Charles), David A. Hicks, Thomas M. Hicks (Holly), James A. Hicks (Shelly), Lucas T. Hicks (Cassandra), Traci Michel (Jason). John had 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild: Leah Shaw (Thomas), Spencer Hicks, Devlin Hicks, Amara Hicks, Conner Callow (Melissa), Maci Inman, Sarah Waugh (Landon), Jessica Alexander, Jacob Shaw, and Aniyah Musick. Along with several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his first wife, Effie L. Hicks; his father, Ansel E. Hicks; mother, Viola H. Brooks; and brothers Robert Hicks and Malcolm Hicks.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Rd., Muncie, Indiana. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel at the same address.

John's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and were enriched by his presence.
