John P. Higgins, 82, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, with his family by his side. Born on April 7, 1942, he was the son of the late John and Julia (Heskin) Higgins.
John dedicated his career to public service as a member of the New York Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant, spending his career in the Bronx. His commitment to his work and community left a lasting impact on those who served alongside him.
He was predeceased by his brother Michael, his sister Kathleen, his beloved wife, Patricia, in 2004 and his son Kevin in 2024. John is survived by his son Brendan Higgins(Cheryl); daughters Kathleen Walsh(Brian) and Erin Higgins(Mike); daughter-in-law Carrie Higgins; and ten cherished grandchildren who brought him great joy.
John loved the NY Yankees as both a fan and through his NYPD Yankees detail. He also loved to hate on his NY Giants and have one-way political debates with his friends over bagels or anyone who brought up politics. He was also an avid gardener which gave him peace and tranquility away from the importance of being a police officer.
John's life was marked by devotion to his family, friends, his strong faith, and a steadfast sense of duty. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
All are welcome to attend a visitation on Tuesday, January 21st from 1-3 & 6-8 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 22nd at 10AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor.
