Robert Kretschman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cargain Funeral Homes Inc. - Mahopac on Feb. 6, 2026.
Robert E. Kretschman, known affectionately as Rob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, in Mt. Pleasant, New York. Born on July 20, 1984, in Carmel, New York, Rob's life was a testament to the strength of family bonds and the joy of lifelong learning.

Rob grew up in a loving household with his parents, Ernst E. and Margaret (Shea) Kretschman, and his siblings, Stephen and Kathleen. He graduated from Mahopac High School, where he formed friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. Rob's dedication to his work as a Maintenance Mechanic/Electrician at CertainTeed Company in Buchanan, NY, was evident to all who knew him. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his involvement in the community, as a proud member of Freemasons Croton Lodge #368 and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Family was the cornerstone of Rob's life. He shared a beautiful marriage with his wife, Briana Waterbury-Kretschman, and in 2019 he adopted her daughter Madelyn and made her his own after raising her from the age of 3. The anticipation of becoming a grandfather brought Rob immense joy and he eagerly looked forward to the birth of his future grandchild in August of 2026. His love for his family was a beacon that guided him through life's journey.

Rob's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He found solace and creativity in making things on his 3D printer, a hobby that allowed him to bring his imagination to life. His feline companion, Bhudd, was often by his side as he tinkered and created. Rob's mother-in-law, Charlotte Waterbury and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Waterbury, were also an integral part of his life, sharing in the family's joys and supporting one another through life's challenges. He was also a proud uncle to his nephew Wyatt and niece Isla through his brother Stephen.

Rob's life is embodied by this quote of fellow Freemason, Brother Book T. Washington, "No man, who continues to add something to the material, intellectual and moral well-being of the place in which he lives, is left long without proper reward. Rob lived his life with purpose and love, touching the hearts of those around him and leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.

Rob's memory will be cherished by his family, friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His spirit, characterized by generosity and a zest for life, will continue to inspire those he has left behind. Rob E. Kretschman will be deeply missed, but the impact of his life's work and the love he shared will endure forever.

Visitation will take place on Monday, February 9, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Home, 418 Route 6 (GPS US-6), Mahopac, NY.

A Prayer Service and Blessing to celebrate Robert's life will commence at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the service, words of remembrance will be said by family and friends.

At 7:00 p.m., a Freemason Ceremony will be held to honor his distinguished service as a member of the Masonic Croton Lodge #368.

Private cremation to follow.
