Brian Appelbergh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cargain Funeral Homes Inc. - Mahopac on Mar. 17, 2026.
Brian W. Appelbergh, a cherished husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother and friend, passed away on March 16, 2026, in Mt. Pleasant, NY, at the age of 36. Born on July 16, 1989, in Yonkers, NY, Brian's life was a testament to the power of kindness, intelligence, and humor.

Brian's journey began as the beloved son of Jon and Kathy (Kolkmann) Appelbergh. His early years were filled with the love and laughter that would become the hallmark of his life. Brian's academic pursuits led him to earn a Bachelor of Arts and a Master's in Education, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning.

Brian dedicated himself to two noble callings throughout his life. He began his career as a gifted teacher, possessing a rare and profound ability to connect with his students through wisdom and kindness. He later transitioned into the electrical trade, where he was respected for his meticulous work and unwavering reliability. Across both careers, Brian's colleagues and peers valued him for his deep dedication and his natural gift for building meaningful relationships.

Above all, Brian's heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted husband to Christine (Spinelli) Appelbergh and a doting father to his treasured daughters, Sophie and Ava. His love for them was the light and joy of his life. Brian's family extended to his caring siblings, Amy Gioacchini (Paul), Lori Gilmore (Dan), and Kristen Appelbergh, loving parents-in-law, Gene and Marisa Spinelli, as well as his in-laws, Joe Spinelli (Rachael) and Danielle Andrews (Mark). His many beloved nieces and nephews will forever cherish the memories of their fun-loving uncle.

Brian was a lover of life and could bring fun into all moments big and small. He loved music, concerts and was an incredible family man and friend. His ability to add humor to nearly any situation brought contagious joy for all of those who had the privilege of enjoying life with him.

Brian's life was a reflection of the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." He embodied this ethos every day, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.

Those who knew Brian will remember his quick wit, his hearty laugh, infectious smile and the kindness he extended to everyone around him. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the knowledge he imparted and the profound love he shared with his family and friends.

Brian's life was a beacon of joy and a testament to the beauty of a life well lived. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support and understanding during this very difficult time.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 418 Route 6 (GPS US-6), Mahopac, NY.
